  • A blow poke

I just made an interesting tool that works great.
It is called a blow poke.
It is used to move wood around and to blow on the fire.

Construction was simple, a piece of 3/8 pipe
    wooden handle
    welded hook on the end

Just drill a hole in the handle and insert the pipe into it. I filled in the gaps with epoxy and it holds great.

The other end is a 3/8 square bar bent into a hook and welded in place. I then added a small piece of 1/4 round to protect the opening on the pipe.

All you have to do is stick it into the oven and blow to help the coals get hot or just help the fire get going.

Simple tool... great effect. Make one yourself and see.

    Re: A blow poke

The subject of your thread made me think that perhaps you were on the wrong forum. I'm also a devotee of the blowpipe. I prefer a slightly smaller diam. For a concentrated blast. Mine is a length of 5/16 (8mm) stainless steel. I like your idea of the wooden handle, this would reduce the tendency of knocking out your front tooth after a few drinks. Always blow, don't suck. Oops maybe I'm on the wrong forum too.

      Stephen,

Great idea with the hook on the end. Gotta use this when I build mine.

David, thanks for the specs on your blowpipe. Sounds like the smaller diameter could provide a more effective airflow out (not in!). Man, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time!
