flue to chimney transition

I am starting on my outer arch and the transition area that leads to the chimney. I will be using an 8 x8 inch inner measurement flue liner.
What I cant figure out is that most of the photos of the transition are much narrower than 8".
I am going from 8" x 22" down to the 8"x8" to make mine work for me.

The reason for the narrow opening is to make the flue arch shallower and the width is larger to make up for the lack of depth.

Some people want a very shallow opening into their ovens.

You should have a throat at the top of your flue arch that is at least as many square inches in cross section as the size of your flue, for your oven that would be at least a 64 inch cross section. Your 22x8 throat is more than adequate it should breathe great.

thanks, from all the post I have read, the larger the transition chamber the less likely I will get smoke out the front when firing up the oven.
I will post picks when I get that far.
