I made a nice big peel out of a baking sheet from an old oven. I imagine these are readily available at the recycle centre? It measured about 16 inches by 12 inches. I purchased a piece of pine dowel 1.25 inches diameter, made a 5 inch cut with a handsaw down its axis and pushed it over the baking sheet. A couple of brass wood screws held it on nicely.

It works really great, but it is essential to coat it with Semolina flour to help the pizza slide off.

I also made a smaller one which I find is handy to clear the oven floor, using it rather like a paint scraper.

Some use a metal peel to place, turn and remove the pizza, but most use a wooden one and then the metal one to do the turning and removing. The base is less likely to stick on a wooden peel than a metal one.
