  • Quick way to bend rebar

    Hello there!

I needed 18 mm rebar bent into a sort of stirrups to tie concrete block stand walls together so I rigged up a quick bending set: I drilled twin holes in a tree stump 2 m from the forno site using a hand brace and 19mm spade drill, then plonked down two bits of steel, one a chisel, to act as stops. (On my first attempt at bending the rebar rod, I bent the first set of steel 'stops' instead and had a quick tumble.)

The resulting bent rod - one of a dozen - is shown in the second snap. Third snap shows the arrangement of the first few 'ties' in place on the stand.

    Cheers,

    Carioca

      Carioca,

I did something similar for "staples" from the rebar grid of my foundation into the Sono Tubes underneath it. Started with a large machinist's vise. Didn't work. Ended up using the bumper of an older Ford F150. Voila.
