If you look at my build thread (below) I covered the blanket layer with chicken wire and then several thin coats of waterproof render; I actually used shower tile adhesive and then tiled over it. No problems to date.

Is it okay to cover a ceramic blanket with an asthetic mortar?
So I have decided to cover my steel smoker with a ceramic blanket and the encase it with a refractory mortar mostly for aesthetic purposes. Any problems with this or suggestions on what mortar insulates best with a minimal coat?
