  • Forno Bravo's Infrared Thermometer

I just received my Laser guided, Infrared Thermometer from Forno Bravo.

    http://www.fornobravo.com/store/Infr...r-p-16155.html

I wanted to let everyone know how pleased I am with this thing! It has adjustable emissivity setting and even better, a metal probe that swings out the bottom and can be inserted in food.

Highly recommended if you are looking for a really fun gadget for cooking and taking surface temps.

Ken, can we ever question the FB store? James does a great job with supplying the store with items of necessity for us. Great choice.
An excellent pizza is shared with the ones you love!

        I must agree!

I received the Caputo flour yesterday James. Thanks so much.
I can't wait to put it to the test!

If it performs as well as everyone says, I will bet that you have made a Caputo customer for life!

Although, with as big a family as I have, I will probably go for the 50 lb bags!

        Thanks Again!

        Dave

BTW - very nice thermo !

          Re: Forno Bravo's Infrared Thermometer

Thanks for the review Ken. I'm actually in need of a new one already. Seems I mistakenly left my ExTech IR sitting in front of my entry during the period of equalization from raging infurno to pizza temps...melted it pretty good, although it still seems to work (amazing) I don't trust its accuracy.

I like the idea of having a probe as well, mine doesn't.

I can recommend the FB digital scale. It REALLY makes a different in the consistancy of dough. No more cups and teaspoons for me.

James, I hope you have the 50 pounder boxed and ready to go. Once he tries it, he won't go back.

How much does it cost to ship a 55lb bag of Caputo?

                To, lets say... 76904..

                  Re: Forno Bravo's Infrared Thermometer

                  Hi Dave,
We will get you the shipping costs off-line, but I thought I would take the opportunity to describe our strategy on shipping costs. There are some merchants that sell billions of dollars of stuff, and lose a lot of money on shipping (read Amazon.com), some that offer "free" shipping, but really just build the shipping costs into the item price, and others that sell products for "free", or very low prices, and make all their profit on shipping and handling fees.

I think FB is different. We get purchase discounts from our suppliers, and sell our stuff at reasonable prices, and then charge the real cost of shipping to try to break even on shipping and handling.

There are lots of ways of going about it, but I like our model. It's real straight forward.

                  Dave, how's the arch?

I agree, straight forward is better. You have my vote on that one.

                    Dave, how's the arch?

Been a bit too cold and wet here to play with it.
I'm gonna get after it, though, it will have to wait until this weekend.
I think the arch will need some kind of metal framework. I am thinking a 1/4 piece of plate steel. Welded and formed to match the interior arch. I hate to do it...

So I might just try some heatstop and a cut brick shim to get everything really tight and allow forces working at the bottom of the arch to hold it all together.

The mortar is what failed. It fell out and that allowed the brick to come with it.

I shouldn't of cheaped out on the mortar. Next time it will be heatstop or an equivalent for me.

                    Thanks for asking.

                    Dave

                      Ken 524,
I'm trying to source a similar gadget here in Australia.
Mind if I ask the brand of the FB thermometer?
(Any local advice would be welcome, eh fellers.) Best link I've found so far is
                      www.instrumentsandsensor.com, but still searching.
They advertise a combination IR/probe job (TCT303F) for approx Aus$145 delivered, but ranges up to 250 celcius only: shame.
This, (like bricklaying), is all virgin ground for this little black duck.
                      Quack quackk.
                      Jeff.

                        Re: Forno Bravo's Infrared Thermometer

Santa was very nice to me this year. I received the infrared thermometer and it IS excellent My niece also gave me some Caputo flour and now I'm hooked on that. I also received the 10" X 8" steel peel and the long leather gloves. All of the above make the pizza cooking process much more accurate and enjoyable.

Only one small complaint about the gloves. It seems that there are a few small holes where the finger seams are and it doesn't look as if its from being burnt from flying ashes. I will contact FB customer service about it.

Since the weather has been cooperating, we have been having friends and family over for "Holiday Pizzas" and everyone is impressed about how fast the pizzas cook and the taste.

                          Re: Forno Bravo's Infrared Thermometer

                          G'day fellers.
Yesterday I asked about the FB thermometer, as in manufacturer and model ID. If I lived in N America, I'd buy from FB shop. Alas, I'm cursed with living in God's Own Country, and will support local Capitalists where feasable.
So tell me, where SHOULD I have looked for both my post, and a response??
(Or did my post not arrive @ FB site?)
The latter is highly likely, and a tad irritating when one is a one-finger-chook-picker.
                          HooRoo.
                          Jeff.

Hi Jeff.......................You are looking for a 'point & shoot' thermometer which will measure up to approx 1000 degrees f. One with an optional probe would be ideal but more expensive.

A quick search on Google.au turns up this....................

                            infrared thermometer - Google Search

You pay your money and make your choice.

Jeff, why not call FB and see if something can be worked out on shipping so that you can buy one from them. Who knows? James is on vacation so no answer there for a while.
                              Per James:
"if you are looking for the correct (and much lower) shipping cost, call our main line (800 407 5119) and press the buttons either for oven sales (Tammy) or accessories (Krista), and they will get the right cost for you."
