Wood Rack - Homemade for 1/2 cord

I had a 1/2 cord of Red Oak delivered over last weekend. $150USD delivered and stacked. In order to store the wood near the WFO I needed to put it along the house without a lot of space. Quick trip to HD for some basic chain link fence parts put together in a slightly unusual way and a 8' x 4' x 18" wood rack was born. worked like a charm.

Thanks, Les. Stacking wood brings back fond memories of my winters as a child outside Chicago. The memories are fond, hated it as a kid.

Hey Greg, thanks for sharing....I've been racking my brain on what to use for the wood that does not fit under my oven or that still needs split. The scrap lumber rack that I banged together looks like crap and my wife is not happy...this is a clean looking easy solution.

yea, thanks for this. It looks great. I'm a big fan of repurposing plumbing pipe which I think would work, too, but I imagine fence parts are cheaper? I'm definitely going to use this idea. I'm obsessed with a wall-o-firewood as decor but I was having a hard time coming up with a quick and easy way to get it to stay upright that would stand the weather and look reasonably decent. This will be perfect as a wall for my outdoor room and I can give it a tin roof to match my oven enclosure. Right now my wood is all stacked on my patio where my new prep tables need to go!

Thanks to all. It went together really easy with a electric grinder to cut the pipe. Maybe 20 minutes and $50. I used two cross brackets on each upright and three across the bottom. What you can't see is the legs. I used a sledge to drive pipes into the ground until they wouldn't go down any father. They all went in different lengths. then I cut them off at the same height and added the fence brackets. Anchored to the ground like that, this thing won't tip over any time soon and you get to work with a sludge hammer....who doesn't like that?

If you live in an area that has termites or carpenter ants, it is recommended that your wood shed not be located immediately next to your house.

I am planning to use chain link fence parts for a large awning. Great stuff.

Now all you need are a bunch of metal roofing pieces, and you can keep the rain off it as well!

I think we get about 1/2 inch of rain per year.....I thought about a roof but I think i'll pass
