Enjoying the build can't wait to start on oven.
Son & Brother-in-law helped with slab on Saturday, all went well, now covered with plastic film to let it cure for a week or so.
Will continue on brickwork for BBQ as it cures otherwise I will be tempted to start oven.

Good idea to put an isolation membrane under the starter course. Your base looks great too.

Thanks stonecutter I got the idea from a post of yours from another thread. Its the great advice from yourself and others who have gone before which make this forum such a helpful resource.

I set the formwork back to allow for face bricks to cover slab, I taped the ply and membrane to formwork to stop bleed water from concrete pour staining brickwork.

All went well as per last photos, no leaks, no mess very happy.

Attached photo shows the look I'm trying to achieve.

Looking at side and rear photos. I possibly would have given yourself access to the back of the base, so you can easily gain access to the rear being a corner build makes it quite deep.

Just a thought for others to consider.

I did under estimate the size of the stand, its big, you are correct an entrance at the back would allow easy stacking of wood etc. but my idea was to build as bullet proof a stand as possible. Could use it as a storm shelter or air raid shelter

Slightly of topic, the height should reduce as a timber deck is to go over foundation slab, my design height is 1150mm to cooking floor, I'm 6' 4" so hopefully workable. Any thoughts?

Is your hearth height figure 1150 after the deck is built or now?

As for your question of hearth end height I'm thinking at 6'4" you might be too low causing you too stoop working the oven. From floor to hearth height I believe recommendation on this site is to have it at Elbow height. I'm 6' and have my hearth height is 1220mm.

If it is a compromise between your height and SWMBO height then leave it as it is.
I had my deck completed and cut the deck out my oven base is cantilevered over the deck.

Height will be 1150 after deck built, but I can add another layer of calsil board (insulate, insulate seems to be the theme).
SWMBO has declared WFO as extention of BBQing therefore my domain

I have started rendering patio walls whilst letting hearth cure. I figure easier than once oven is built.

I stupidly built the oven before rendering behind it now making task that little bit more diffcult. Think i might have to render before completing the oven insulation while i still have 200mm of space available.

Hi Colin, yes first time render, had advice from brother whom has rendered whole house. Biggest hurdle was trying to float with polystyrene float to early after applying render with steel float in fear of the render going off to quick.

I'm using ABC Drypak Render which is very forgiving, but you must follow the render / water ratio to exact proportions, although when you first mix it seems way to dry. Use a large paddle paint mixer in electric drill.

Render comes in 20kg bags, so I mix 2 x 10kg lots and find once I finish second application of render with steel float, the first section is about ready to float with polystyrene float. Once finished I final float with foam float.

I have a little pump pressure garden sprayer with water which I use to give a very light misting if the render is dry in sections.

Long weekend this weekend so hoping to finish render and start oven build yeah!

Partners son is a plasterer and has rendered will get him to do one wall and show me. Will take it from there but need to do that soon.

Yes I know what you mean, xmas is just around the corner and I promised SWMBO the oven would be up and running.
