Nice start, good job on dry stack. Be sure to have some relief under your arch form and save for door template later on.

Gday UtahBeehiver,will do. I have used the screws that I had as legs so I can just screw them up to remove the arch forms.The outer arch is 30mm larger to allow of the door.
Have a question,If you stand the bricks up does it reduce the strength of the dome.

Hello,well ordered my mortar ect from the melbourne fire brick company and it turned up in 1.5 days. Ben is very helpful and worth giving a ring.
Managed to track down a brick saw for a couple of slabs . Now to get into it.
Layed out floor inso. Very dusty! Same with oven floor. Found center again and used a brick to attach hendo too.Drilled a small hole in the brick fitted a wall plug to screw into. Fitted a piece of flat to hendo drilled a hole in the center and attached it to the brick. Not to tight. Seems to do the job.

Brew,

There are several builds with the first course being soldiers but from what I have seen they may require some bolstering vs using a 1/2 header. But that is up to you.

Gday all, have had some progress in the last couple of weeks. Have learnt a lot . It pays to ask. No question is stupid no matter how trivial.
So floor is down and first course is done.😃. Because I have made the first course soldiers it seems to throw the dome arch out of sink,so cut wedges to help plug the large gap. The bonus was it gave me a good starting point. Next the inner arch and venture. Hope all goes ok. Cheers

Building on a soldier course means that you'll have a flatter dome section. You'll have to reset you IT tool for ever level of brick . One way to do this is to cut a half dome section out of ply, and fit it in the oven to reset your IT by eye.
One problem as the dome opening gets smaller you have to fit it through the door, if that's under 1/2 the form will not fit. As you approach this point you cut off the outmost curved edge of the form.

You can also remove a few floor bricks from the middle of the floor, so that the centre of the IT is lower. This will also give you a lower dome height but eliminate the need to constantly adjust the IT.

Sorry Dave don't agree.
Lowering the IT point puts it at a smaller diameter dome size. It's not the full circle but a flatter curve to result in the same dome height for its width

Depending on the construction of the IT, I have used the castor wheel model, if the IT is mounted an inch below the floor level it will give the same diameter and a lower dome height.

Worked that way for me when I used it in 2 subsequent builds.

Drawing shows how dropping the centre of the IT below floor level can lower the internal height of the dome. The new diameter will be larger but flatter.

I got out the piece of paper I tried the same thing myself. Now I see what you mean. Even a modest drop makes a big difference even more than I expected.

Yes it actually lowers the internal height by more than the distance you drop it below the floor level because of the flatter arc created by the larger diameter.

Some more pics.Bit slow getting pics. Had my HTC have the black screen of death. They did replace the phone.
The dome is now done , Had to use a ball for the last 3/4 courses,other than that no forms.A bit tricky when using fire bricks as they suck in the moisture. Tried wetting them but it was better to make the mortar a little wetter.
All in all not to stressful .
