WFO's South Coast NSW

Hi All, New to the forum.
Any WFO builders in the South coast of NSW, Wollongong down to Ulladulla and out to the Southern table lands?
Procrastinated over oven location for the past twelve months without resolve, so I intend to build one on a self-supporting structural slab with galvanised steel frame, got the capacity to lift 5 ton. Eventually hope to settle on a permanent location.

Not near you but I'm building mine on my deck ( 1 st storey ). It has a gal frame but I used Hebel powerpanel instead of a concrete slab, a lot easier and you would save a bit of weight probably too.

Seamad, I'm guessing the Hebel would have better thermal properties as well?

It does, still use calsil above the hebel.

I don't have any other insulation than hebel and my ovens 4 yrs old now, no ill effects . BUT I'll be the first to tell you to be cautious and protect the hebel with some higher temp insulation first.

+1 what the others said. I have ceramic board on top of the
hebel, stuck it on with the hebel adhesive.

Ditto seamad but after blowing afl the Crap off and slightly wrong the hebel to create a key.

Guys,
Would the best insulation on top of the Hebel be Calcium silicate board @ 50mm thick then 25mm of refractory castable and finally the oven floor bricks.?
Any other ideas ?

I just laid my firebricks (75mm thick) on the casi board, no mortar, infact nothing underneath them.

You only need a thin piece of cal sil to take the sting out of the heat so the Hebel can cope. I think 1" of cal sil would be plenty. The Hebel does a pretty good job as an insulator, but just doesn't cope well with anything over 300 C. Place the firebricks directly on the cal sil unmortared. If they're uneven then use a bed of dry 50/50 clay, sand.

Yep that the way to do it. The hearth and in fact the dome has to be able to move freely . No mortar. If its pearlite/cement and uneven go the clay sand paste but if its even, why make it complex.
