  • Help with sourcing ceramic rope, high temp silicon.

    Hi all,

I'm trying to source some ceramic rope for a thermal break between the dome arch and chimney arch. I'm based in Sydney so are there any local suppliers that sell by the meter as I don't need a huge amount. Another option is put insulating blanket between the arches, is this ok?

Also what high temp silicon has the forum found to be a good product, some are rated to 360 deg c some only 300, but apples aint apples with high temp silicons. I've found gasket glue to be the best option but is not very visually appealing and would have to hide with the ceramic rope.

I'm also after an urban wear pipe type chimney with decorative top would standard plumbing pipe do or do I need to source a higher temp rated clay pipe? Suppliers? Seems very hard to find in Sydney.

    Thanks all.

    Hey there Brendan

You'll likely already know of these places, but just in case I'll put the links in. Not sure if either will have what you're looking for, but it may be worth giving them a call and they could guide to other places if they don't have it. These were the only Sydney based places I've found to date that deal in refractory products.

The first is in Wetheral Park and the other Brookvale

    Field Furnace Refractories

Buy Outdoor Pizza Ovens in Sydney & Brisbane

Good luck and watching your build with interest too.
    Cheers
    Darius

Yeah Darius, been to Field Furnace at Wetherill Park numerous times. It is a great shop and the guy that serves me each time builds the ovens etc for the company. Great help every time I have asked questions and always gives me a good price on products.

Trying to expand my horizons and get a few more ideas on products.

It seems Sydney is a very small city with some products compared to the USA and its products available to the general public.

      Cheers

Re: Help with sourcing ceramic rope, high temp silicon.

Got some ceramic rope from a fireplace shop. They had all sorts of sizes and were very cheap I thought. Got 2.5m for $25 of 6mm rope. Will try and get some high temp silicon from somewhere else they had run out of stock.

How hot do you think it would get between the dome arch and flue arch? This is where I have my thermal break.

ceramic fiber blanket is ok, but the ceramic fiber rope is better.
