  • Aloha Boogie-D here from hawaii

Aloha my name is David but all my friends call me Boogie-D.... I live in the Hawaiian islands on Oahu’s famous North Shore in a small town called Haleiwa... I live on a beautiful off grid farm in a old plantation house built prior to plumbing and electricity.... I enjoy the off grid life and restoring the historic Hawaiian communal farm lands that I live on... the passion of boogie boarding brought me to the north shore but now my focus is the farm and off grid living.. my next project for the farm is building a outdoor kitchen and wood fired pizza oven.... I have been studying you tube... this forum... and everything I can find and learn about the subject... thank you for your commitment to the subject here.... this is my first post... of course being in Hawaii has a lot of challenges especially with fire brick and refractories... but there are some options... so without further a due... let’s get going... I’ll be asking some specific questions on posts that I have been reading... after I figure things out more I will start my build post.... thanks ahead of time for all your help and all you do... aloha... That's a bit long distance! Piha is lovely. Sounds like you have a lovely job though! Have you ever been to J-Bay (Jefferies Bay) on the East Coast of South Africa? Great surfing beach.

You should Mark... it’s awesome... do you surf? Hawaiian airlines had a cheap direct flight for 865$ round trip prior to Covid... we have a very big yard and you could always tent camp at my place to save some coin.. I found in my travels the kiwi good folks and have much in common with the Hawaii culture.. ki Ora

Yeah, we see you tuber builders come to us after the fact wondering why this or that does not work, at that point in time there is not much that can be done. There are some really bad and misleading youtube videos out there, especially p or v crete main domes on a yoga ball. Glad to see you found the forum before you headed too far down the rabbit hole. Plus we want all builders, no matter what their budgets are, to be successful. We are NOT after "subscriptions" or "likes"

Thanks for saying what needs to be said. Folks need to do lots of research before jumping in.

I've been to Hawaii once, about 15 or so years ago. Flew in to Honolulu for my nieces wedding. She was in the Navy then and stationed there. We stayed about 4-5 days, did the whole tourist thing and had a great time. Loved it.

I may be new to building cast pizza ovens but I have been building homes since I was17... I started off with a concrete company who specialized it stand up concrete walls... we did miles and miles of stand up walls for highways, prisons, hotels, and residential hillside retaining walls.... we cast all kind of stuff... I moved so many huge forms... tied miles of rebar and poured concrete from trucks that ran all day... I then got into framing... I spent time on the siding crew,,, windows.. trim... roofing... drywall... etc,,, I have a load of tools... I like to think I can build a house from the ground up with a little help from my plumbing and electrical buddies... I think I have a good grasp of the building process for casting a wfo.. materials is the big issue in Hawaii... which led me here.. you tube got me thinking... and in the course of research here I am at my first attempt and learning a lot as I go..... I feel confident I can do it.. but hope that I can get the oven floor bricks... no oven floor bricks... no oven... wish I could post you guys some pics of the “dojo” I built in the first week of Covid lockdown... but the forum won’t allow me to load even 1 pic due to being to large.. ?... is there a trick to loading pics? Shoot... hope your all enjoying the holidays.. it’s been raining all day here..

So, can you get low duty bricks there or none at all?

You need to reduce the pic size to 1.25 mg or less and you can attach abt 5 per post. There are lot of free apps or software which will allow you to reduce pic size.

There’s one place that sells the maddox brands clay fire brick used for fire places... use this brick on pizza oven floor?
