Tomorrow the next phase begins...the structural hearth gets poured!

I've moved from Getting Started ( http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f6/b...oven-4157.html ) since this has become an outdoor kitchen project with an unusual build having the oven and bakehouse together.

The building is in major renovation and the oven is now shaping up too!

Eventually it's going to be surrounded by a patio area too.

Woah, you're going to have another oven done before I even get around to pouring my foundation! Very impressive. I can't wait to see how the project takes shape.

It's going to look great. But I think your hearth seems a little low to the ground. :-)

Island hearth

I made a 1x6 frame for the insulating hearth......perlcrete and insulating firebrick filler.

Jim, I think your hearth looks a little crooked. It is support to be horizontal, not vertical. :-)

I love it! That is going to be one big oven! Also, that is some of the smoothest perlcrete I have ever seen...are you sure you added the perlite?

Insulating Hearth

I decided to use a layer of the insulating firebrick with perlcrete over it.

Thermocouple adaptation

I used a plastic waterpipe piece to make a tube in the perlcrete layer.

One at the top and one at the bottom of the insulation layer.

Then I can install and/or remove thermocouple probes as needed!

A little vaseline on the tube, then rotate it while the perlcrete is curing. For the top tube I covered it with a little more cement based perlcrete and will level that surface with the fireclay/sand mix before the hearth bricks are placed.

I found some old Granite steps from demolition of a Bank Building.

It baffles the mind that it would have ever paid to scorp out the back of the step like that. Mind you, this was before sintered diamond saws, and that was a lot of cutting.
