We set the posts in the brackets so we could measure the tops for final trimming. I purchased a Bosch laser to help with a lot of this project knowing I was going to do framing, tile and other layout and hoped it would pay for itself. Turns out it did. It was ideal for figuring out how to trim the posts to the exact height (I am sure professional framers know a better way to do this) and they turned out perfect.

Beams and posts were delivered. Beams were several hundred pounds apiece and we humped them around the yard foot by foot to get them into position.

Broke out the old patio. You can see we have poured the footings and set the post bases.

Used string lines to set it all up which was pretty fiddly but worked out well

We began the project last summer by tearing down the 45 year old patio cover. This was a hell of a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Welcome to the forum community! There are lots of members on this site that use their wood fired ovens for everything besides pizza (from roasting & smoking meats to baking bread, biscotti, corn, and even drying fruits). We all enjoy looking at other folks designs for the outdoor kitchen of our dreams, so there will be lots of interest in your build. Glad to read that you are willing to entertain the addition of a wood fired oven to your fabulous sounding plan...just leave some room for when the WFO bug bites...

    My Outdoor Kitchen Build

    Hello -

This is my first post on this site. A little backstory - have been contemplating an outdoor kitchen for several years and pulled the trigger last summer with a little demo. I know this is ultimately a pizza oven site (which I want but is not part of my plan at the moment) but an outdoor kitchen is an outdoor kitchen. We are currently building and our layout is essentially 700 square feet of covered patio with an island and a counter against the wall of the house. We are installing a small fridge, a large sink, barbecue and hood in the wall counter. In the island we are installing a commercial flat top and a commercial wok burner with a four seat eating bar.

    More to come.
Working...
