      Hey Paul
The race is on. Your project looks great so far. Love the slate look. I have an advantage. I have managed to separate the grand plans from the pizza oven. So I should have the edge. Here's to Pizza by Christmas
      Cheers

Pizza by Christmas is the plan, that's for sure.
Formed up to pour the top of my base today.

Your a step ahead still. Good idea bending the reinforcing down into the brick holes. It maximises the tie in to the walls and slab and prevents the reo from being exposed. Although some of that welding looks a bit tedious.

Uh huh, got the welder out to weld a rod I was having trouble bending into place then got carried away, completely unnecessarily I suspect...

Probably unnecessary. But like almost all of the rest of us, if it's worth doing it's worth over-engineering. Mine won't won't come down without a bulldozer.

Poured some concrete after work tonight. Mixed it by hand, didn't take nearly as long as I feared it would.

After much consideration I decided to go with a kit.
                    Quite reasonably priced.
I have assembled the thing and grouted it together.
Doubled up on the insulating board and will also go way over recommended spec for the top insulation before I render it and lay it over with stone.

                          Thanks Mark!

Even though I am still waiting on my flue and I haven't done my brick arch yet, I was keen to insulate my dome, wrap it in wire and get an initial coat of render on.
It was a challenge getting the metal mesh sitting right, and in the end although it wasn't perfect, it was good enough for me to have a crack.

Pauly, Thats not a crack... That is a Steam Ventilation Stress Escape... How many coats of render are you putting on,, And will you be enclosing your dome ?

                            Cheers

                              Mark,
Not covering it in, love the rendered dome look.
Coats of render - unsure. I think one more coat of this Fibrelite stuff. Then a top coat or two of something weatherproof, maybe something in a dark brown tone to match the house. Would like a beautiful smooth orb but I'm tipping the combination of my dodgy metal meshing and my even dodgier rendering skills will necessitate me going for some sort of pattern like Wawazats oven.

                                Nobby,
Mate, don't be fooled, my skills are at the bottom end of the chain.
I bought a Wild Wood kit from a guy here in Melbourne.
An American oven, I just upped the anti considerably on the insulation.
I can give you the $ and his contact details if you like. PM me.
