  • Twigs & Branches

During my last pizza party (fed up to 34 people) i threw in twigs and small branches into the coals (one side of the oven) while cooking pizza, and this provide a beautiful large rolling fire that circulated over the pizza/floor. I'm sure some of you may already do this, but if you have not give it a shot, it works great, the twigs instantly catch fire and provides a nice flame.

Yeah, I always do it this way too. In fact I keep some sticks (average size about as thick as a finger) in the entry to preheat them so they instantly flame up when placed. In Europe some folk burn orchard prunings in their ovens. The only downside is that the smaller the fuel the more frequently you have to add it.

I do the same, pre-heat the branches so they instantly catch fire.

I use mostly windfalls. They are pretty well dry, when I gather them. They work great! after a few more day of drying in the shed. But, I have bound some green ones with sissal rope (hay string) using a truckers hitch to bind them down. Several months later, they make a great log to throw on the fire .
