Good point, thats what I always tell myself. I imagine my son in about 20 years time telling his wife-to-be: My mother baked all her own bread... Ha ha, she'll hate my guts!

Rain rain go away...

So, not much progress on the oven at present

... but inspired by the matching colour scheme on James' lovely dog-and-patio set, I decided than what I am currently really missing for my complete hapiness is a teapot to match the oven...

If the rain continues maybe I'll go for a reed one and a green one too. For the time being I'll just have to make sure to drink my tea only beside the blue strips....

A funny thing happened this morning... there was this really bright disk up in the sky... not sure I've ever seen anything quite like it before... I think I'll call it an UMPH (Unidentified Meterological Phenomenon).

So this is what I did today by the light of the umph...

I've started filling in the gaps between colours, and you can see how I've been colouring the grout slightly with acrylic paint... while its not enough to make the grout look anything other than gray, I'm hoping the overall effect will be to make the blue bits look bluer, the grren bits greener and etc.

What with various birthdays and aniversaries, sewing a wedding dress for a friend's wedding and goodness knows what else, I've hardly had time to do any mosiacs recently.

I don't know, here I am, spending all my available time building an oven, completely single minded as a good WFO builder should be... and then suddely notice I still have a life! Quite a shock that, I can tell you. Pity George isn't here anymore, he'd be so impressed...

Still, looking at the last photos there has been some progress.

Question:
I was going to do the top of the chimney with just blue swirls, but then my huband said he thinks it would look better if I finished the blue swirls there with some green. What do you all think woud be better?

Any advice/opinions/points of view would be very welcome.

I don't know how you'd put the green up there, but I vote for a bit of green. It's my favorite color.

Is the mosaic going to cover the base you have painted white as well? I like the way the swirls sort of lick the base now...

Welcome back Frances - looking good!
My two cents ... blue or green, either would work - go with your gut instincts as that's what you'll be happiest with. You can't lose either way as it's already beautiful.
Sewing a wedding dress?! That may be even more ambitious than a WFO!! Will it have swirls ?

Frances, I'd vote for red with the dark red you have on the bottom front of the entry as the center color. The last swirl of the flame leaping upward. Balancing the two lower red/yellow swirls creating upward movement. But what do I know about art... I consider myself more of a technician than as any sort of artist.

What you have done so far is wonderful, so trust your instinct. Art isn't done by committee.

Elizabeth: Is green really your favourite colour? Its mine too. The swirls are going to cover all the white bits, and maybe some of the stand as well. (Someday...)

Sarah: Nah, the wedding dress is nothing compared to building an oven. Its a very simple dress without swirls... but the silk material is to die for.

Wiley: I never said I was going to follow anyone's advice, did I? But its always nice to discuss these things while I make my mind up. Merging the yellow and red with the blue is also a cool idea.

...Come to think of it, if I went for green it would put me in a good barganing position with my husband for years to come ("I did the oven how you wanted, so this time we're doing it my way...")
