I forget, did you layer your timbrel arch ( like a Guastavino ) or is it a single layer of firebrick? I'll try to find your pics....

Maybe I can get Erik ( Fundi ) over here..he shares the same sickness for arches as we do.

I think you mean, horror! As in a wicked sense to strike horror in the hearts of the newbies.

Re: Home brew concrete and cast-in-place concrete.

I don't know if Australia has wolves or not, the indigenous kind or others. But Northern Minnesota has--once hunted to near extinction, then placed on an endangered list to rebound, and now sometimes hunted again. They are beautiful animals. The timberwolf. Their head and jaw structure is much stronger than any dog --and their bite can crush through bone.

I have seen them stop while crossing a highway and from a distance they look like a deer. Because of the height--but the shape is different. Their paw is larger than a dog as well and allows them to run on top of slightly crusted snow.
Their usual prey "white-tail deer" hoof breaks through the snow.

Some of these magnificent animals hunt in groups called "packs". Their prey has little chance for survival, all avenues of excape are eliminated--success is almost certain! But this pack needs lots of prey to survive---so they must always be hunting.

Occasionally, there is that odd one. A big old grey that hunts alone or in pairs.
This wolf usually avoids the pack, could be seen as an intruder, but at times can join into the hunt to share in a feast. Then goes off again to hunt alone. This wolf does well when game is sparce.

I wish that I had a link to some video on these beautiful creatures. Our area even built a "Wolf Center" in Ely, Minnesota where the public could view them from behind glass.

Just wanted to point out, there are lots of different wolves around and I seldom do well in groups.

Also, glad that you do not keep lists on sheets!

Yes, it is layered, ala Gustavino:

I split splits lengthwise (because that is what I had). It is actually not a good idea, even though I full mudded the joints. I am pretty sure the layers have separated from thermal expansion/contraction. The oven stays hot for days, but it won't stay super hot (900+) for very long.

I am ready to tear it out and build another.

I was wondering about that, if there was separation that is. Oh well... nothing ventured, nothing gained.

                                Tom,
I have valued your advice, admired your oven, and your "place". Here is some "repay" advice . You have room for it. So why not just build another oven along side? Think about the convenience of having two ovens at different temps at the same time. Would that not increase the possibilities . Please don't tear down a perfectly good oven .
