  • Akona Brand Medium Duty Refractory mortar.

I got a good deal on this. Anyone here ever use that brand?

I decided to use refractory mortar instead of home brew for the dome build.

I believe they made a mistake in that order over $75.00 had free shipping. So, I ordered 2 of the 50 lb bags for $139.00

It was definitely more expensive than using the home brew mortar. But, I couldn't be happier. It held the bricks nicely. I only needed to use sticks for support on the top 2 courses.

Hello, Chris, thanks for writing up on this. I am thinking of using the same mortar mix. What is the minimum joint size do you think can be used to hold two fire bricks firmly together?

Hello all! I am also considering using this mortar, as it is the only refractory mortar that I can find in my town. I am wondering if 1/4in joint size will be too thin? Thanks!
