If you have firebricks, it is not difficult to harvest the brick dust that results from wet-cutting them. Over the course of building an oven you can collect more fireclay than you will need.
Clay pave in Brisbane would be a cheaper alternative. Don't use the Cement Australia's Bricklayers Clay (fireclay) it is not a refractory clay and is mislabeled IMO.You might be able to get some fireclay from a potter, they use it.
