      Calisdad,

How close is the fire to your property? My father in law lives at Pine Mountain and they were talking about evacuating.
      Check out my pictures here:

Thanks Texman. Mother Nature might have some say in that.

Les, it's a mile and a half. Went to 54,000 acres overnight. We packed up to go yesterday. My property is half a mile above PML.

After an infernal interruption we've dry fit the travertine.

Looking really good! Are you covering the dome with tile as well or something else?

Glad the inferno left you alone. I hope they get that under control somehow.
Tile looks great. Keep up the good work.

Is there a ban on fires that will prevent curing? Lots of folks use charcoal if that is an option.

                Re: New Member- New build

Dave, The plan is to do the curing fires while I do the tile and stone work the insulate and stucco the dome.

Thanks Texman. It got too darn close (a mile). As smokey as it is nobody would notice but I have some charcoal. Thanks for the tip.

Best fire map I've found: http://yubanet.com/Briefing_Day_Esiz...857_150dpi.pdf

That map is depressing but not as bad as actually seeing the fires. was this an accidental start or unknown? I watched a govt briefing that believed the Al queda bunch was complicit in starting forest fires in the US. Any word of that?

PS not a conspiracy guy, it just kinda makes sense.

                    Re: New Member- New build

The fire started in a very remote area on the Clavey River near the junction of the Tuolumne River (red 'x' in circle on the map). No lightening but hundreds of kayakers participating in an event. No roads for several miles. No official cause released.

Set the facing tile and curing fire #1- 4 pieces of newspaper= 102 degrees

With proper supervision, of course. A bit of smoke relief this afternoon.

Glad the spaniels are on watch. They look ready to eat your first meal from the oven.

We have french britts and quail/pheasant hunt here in West TX. I doubt your birds are still around with all the fires.

                        Marble looks good.

Thanks Texman. They are avid quail, pheasant and tournament hunters and I've already been told they appear to be first in line. :-)

Sadly 98% of our quail grounds have been devastated.

Thanks boerwarrior. Yesterday we stripped the forms, polished the travertine edges, gave the travertine its first coat of sealer and had a 300 degree curing fire. The outside temp of the dome didn't raise a bit.

You may have noticed pencils sticking out of the tile. Those are recesses to hold the pencil rebar for the stucco lath. I still have to add some fire brick on top so there are no horizontal areas that would allow water to puddle. I want the first 5" of brick to show but the rest will get stucco.

I was wondering about using travertine for my "side" surfaces - which I have yet to complete! Are you worried about the stone staining? What kind of sealer are you using?
