  • Well here goes nothing

I'm getting started to build a brick oven. Just
Found this site. Don't have a lot of time to
Research as I have pour planed for next week.
I built a pergola and patio I'm pouring, and stamping.
My plan is for a oven just off the pad. I guess
I'll swing for the fence and do a 42" dome style. I
Need to dig for the pad this weekend. What size
Pad do I need for block base? I'll go 10-11 inch deep
4" stone and 6" pad with rebar. Just need a size. Thanks

Have you read the free e-book that details how to build a pompeii oven from start to finish?

I'm posting a picture of the recomendations from the free Forno Bravo plans. I would highly recomend that when you get a chance, download and read them as they are very helpful.

Yep, all framed up ready for concrete. I'm
A little thick 6" but that's okay ran out of stone.
Putting wire mesh in also using 4000 psi
Concrete with fiber. I dug 12" and have a 6" stone base.
I got the down load and have been reading and looking
At endless pictures.. I notice a lot of bases dry stacked?
Then core filled with rebar? Are most of the bases dry stacked
And then just core filled? I would at least think
Of laying bottom corse with mortor so it stays put? Once
I get a good day to pour concrete I'll get base laid up
In short order. I'll take plenty of pics.

Looks good. Don't forget to tamp dirt and stone.
I chose not to drystack, but in going through a lot of blogs, it's pretty common, and would certainly save time.

Yes I did tamp the dirt and plane on a little
More stone tonight. Pad is about 6" so I'll
add some more to get right at 5 1/2". If I
Can pour Saturday I'll have base laid up and
              Shelf framed by weeks end.

When you pour, try to get the rebar somewhere in the middle of the concrete. I lifted mine up with some pieces of brick.

Yeap I always grab it with a tooth of a rake
Pull it up into concrete. I'm pretty sure I'll be
Okay until I get to base. I got more reading to
Do tonight. But really glad I got this forum
To bounce questions off. Going to be a fun
                    Project.

                      Re: Well here goes nothing

One other thing that is helpful is to sink rebar into the 4 corners of the base where the concrete blocks go. Good way to anchor it all together. I believe the e-book covers it.

You may be related to him, perhaps. I think his name was Don. Everyone just called him Bubb. And he lived and worked near York, which as you know, is right near Dover, before he retired awhile back. Like you said, not a real common name.
