  • Oven Progress

    Hi from NH.

We have had some good building weather and I have had plently of time in Nh. I just poured/ placed my vermiculite layer. I found vermiculite at the Agway store in Salem, NH. Ended up using three 21lb bags and about 150lbs of cement. I used a 5 to 1 ratio, the ratio of water to achieve a clumpy moist mixture was 3.

Just orderd the wet saw from Harbor Freight that was recommended on this site. I was going to get a cheap one from Home Depot but decided to get a better one. Next up is finding fire bricks.

    (I am building a 36" oven)

Thanks to everyone for making this such a great site.

      Re: Oven Progress

I have to figure out how to do the whole post picture thing. Right now it is a pretty boring huge block stand. I am a little overwhelmed with how big this thing is ending up being. I had to build mine up a liitle more than others to get to the level of my deck. Fun project so far though lots of labor and too many trips to HomeDepot....

I don't know I think this is some kind of disease. My original goal was to get to the point I am by Winter. Now my wife seems to think we will be having pizza on Thanksgiving.

Right now my brain is starting to fill with angles and arches...
