  • Floor plates pattern

    Hi,
I bought some floor plates to put in my wood oven.
Size of the plates is: 50x25x6cm (20x10x2.5inch)

I need your advice if i need to put at zigzag pattern or not.

    Thanks

Those are huge floor plates. The only advice I would give is be sure to stagger the joints so you do not have four corners meet. Some say there is less chance if the peel catching if the floor is a herringbone pattern. Use a pattern that uses the tiles most effectively (except the the four corner joint).

Looks fine to me, Just a side note, the FB ovens floors use large fire brick tiles and they are not on an angle and dont' stagger joints but I personally think it is better to stagger the joints.

I like this idea better. With the Haring bone pattern you are much less likely to catch a edge on your peel. If it does not use to much more material I would do this option.

              Nice!
              I will keep this pattern.
No,is almost the same number of plates as the other pattern,i will use the cutted plates to fill the pattern.

              Thanks

George, something I learned from reading posts, if you lay out your pattern from the entry way back, you can avoid having some small or odd pieces visible at the front of your oven. I can't tell from your picture but maybe that is something you already accounted for. Not sure how well this will work with your larger size plates though.

                  Hi,
You mean the half bricks marked in the rectangle?

ID:	386488 Yes, it's kind of hard to tell, but if I moved those bricks backwards any (slid the pattern) it would introduce small triangles along the front. I moved the pattern forward just to the point where the small pieces would be eliminated at the entry. If you read the "what would I do different" forum, you will see this brought up a few times where folks ended up with the small pieces where they were most visible and possibly prone to movement. If you move your pattern forward so the line I drew is at the right point in your landing it might work out.

A quick thought is to make something like this:
                            What do you think?

You are building your oven with the floor inside the dome, not under the dome, right? Since I build mine on top of the floor, I brought my floor bricks to the front of my inner arch. If you build with floor inside your design looks good. I also made mine so I could replace the entry bricks rather easy in case they got worn from heavy pots or otherwise damaged, since the entry bricks should see the most wear. What you are showing looks like you could do the same, as long as you don't trap the bricks under the vent arches. This may make for a weaker design, but it is the way I went.
