  • Flue location on barrel vault oven Newbie question

Hi all, busy building a barrel vault oven here in Wanaka New Zealand. First 3 courses laid and now I need to think about the flue. I intend to build an outer arch to accept a door. should I position the flue to the front of the barrel vault, or have it exiting above/through the outer arch? I assumed the door should seal to the outside of the flue entry, but I've seen many examples where the door seals under the flue. Not sure what to do...

Would appreciate any comments and thanks in advance
    Sean

Look at Karangi Dude's number two build. It was a top notch barrel build.

      Cheers UtahBeehiver.
Wow amazing build by Karangi Dude (yours also btw). Light years ahead of mine. I believe I'll put the flue into/over the outer arch and just move the door forwards / back to the entrance as needed. My oven is quite small and basic with a hearth of 32" long by 23' wide. Fire bricks here in NZ are very expensive (> $7 US/ brick) so have just re-purposed old fire bricks on the hearth with red clay bricks for the vault. Vermiculite and render to go over when done.
      We'll see!
