  • 2 1/2 inch steel studs for enclosure?

I am planning out my install of a WFO on a custom metal stand. I want the smallest footprint possible. Would an enclosure made with 2 1/2 inch steel studs and cement board be enough. I notice other builds use larger studs for their enclosures.

    Thanks,

    Scott D.

I wouldn't try to support the oven on sheetmetal studs of any dimension. Most metal stands are made of rigid structural steel welded together.

If it's just to support the cement board on top of your support slab, I'm sure the smaller ones would work fine. Remember, a round oven only approaches the edge of the square support in three places. You could use the standard studs and cut them away in those three places.

Remember to leave room for your insulation, whatever you do.

      Dmun,
This would only be for the enclosure around the oven.

This studs should be fine for the oven enclosure. Do you have enough room for the needed insulation?

          Chris,
Yes there will be 4 inches of the blanket insulation and then the enclosure can be filled with the perilite stuff.

            You should be golden then.
