Soak bricks using Heat Stop 50

Can anyone tell me if I'm supposed to soak my firebrick as I use Heat Stop? Thank you.

You can dip them, but should not soak them.

Also make sure you clean the brick after the cutting process so your mortar has a clean surface to bond to. You'll get a feel for it quickly.

So, we should not soak them? Is that true for all high heat mortar, or specific to the Heat Stop (I have Thermal Ceramics Smoothset)? For some reason, I thought I read somewhere that the bricks should be soaked, so the mortar does not dry out too quickly.

That is true for all masonry.

Thanks for the help. That's where I think my last set of refractory mortar went bad. The bricks were soaked and the mortar never set.

I am just getting started on my Oven. I have the soldiers and one course above that completed. I have found about 5 seconds in water give or take, depending on the consistency of my heatstop 50 once I have mixed it. I try for a thick peanut butter but a couple times came out with more like pudding I am being more diligent about it as I go. Don't want to mess the whole things up.
