Coulnt you have used the inner arch profile with say some masonite tacked on to pack it out 10/15mm?
That way you would end up with two arches with similar profiles.

I did the inner arch free form as well, it basically follows the same profile, that photo is making look odd tho. This is a shot of the outer arch completed.

Some shots showing a method for getting back to a circle after the arch transition, using a couple of rings of fencing wire. The wire is expanded to the coorect size and laid on top to check the correct placement of the bits to get back to round.

Closing the dome. I used a latice made out of strips of 2mm MDF to allow it to expand into the shape of the dome and supported it from inside the dome with several supports

Do you have bricks inside where you have the big triangles of mud?

Yeh, there are bricks there, they are not quite level with the others and the mud was still wet when i took the photo.

Thats good then, I was going to say a big lump of mud like that will just fail and fall out.

                        Hey Paul-

I can't believe you did those arches free hand. Thanks for the help on mine, it looks a lot like yours. Your build looks great, keep it going.

Insulation going on, shots of teh thermocouples in place, first coats of render and starting the drying out process

Assuming you haven't already done any drying fires before the final render, you need to proceed really slowly or you will crack the outer arch. Curing fires are better done before the final outer shell is put on, because water will always want tomove away from the fire. This leaves you with steam pressure build up in the insulation layer.

Thanks for the advice David. I did do a couple of small fires before the insulation, but it kept raining and re wetting the outside, so i thought I would proceed with the insulation and render to at least get a semi water proof finish on it.

I have had 7 or 8 small fires since the render and i am building up very slowly both in fire intensity and length of fire. The fire in the previous set of photos was the biggest i have set so far.

How are the fires going. Did you get any cracking? Oven looks great.
