Pizza oven update

New job and other projects got in the way of pizza this summer and fall. I'm cleaning and painting this week.

I put a small fire to dry it out if it absorbed any moisture for a few hours. Put some more wood, just shy of the big crazy fire,band ten mins later heard a ping noise I haven't heard in a long while. I guess,. what's one more crack?

I've got a few more cracks than when I last posted, but it's doing great.

Gearing up for 20 friends and family for pizza next Wednesday and most of the same crew for pizza oven turkey on Thursday. I'm going to spatchcock it this year so it should cook faster. That's also a good way to cook the bird if you have low door clearance issues.

The oven is still alive and cooking! We had a wedding here last week for 60 or so people. All went very well.

Tomorrow is a more focused group with just 12 of us. 4 batches of dough in process now.

Overall, the oven is holding up very well. Hello to James and the gang!

It's been lovely pizza weather here in NC. Pizza oven's still going strong. Needs more paint on the trim - I made it from hardie trim and it doesn't seem to hold paint well.

Any of you have had their chimney tile crack?

I forgot all about this until I re-applied fire caulking around the square chimney tile.

My first 3 chimney tiles developed a vertical crack running up the center of one of the walls. I finally just pulled the tile and rotated it to the back side and smeared high temp caulk over the surface.

Some 15 years later, it hasn't changed - so if yours cracked, it may not be an issue - we get very little snow/ice here so that was likely a factor as well.
