Re: I'm getting closer to my Dome!

Since this is a oven construction thread I will continue the build through its present day status. Back several pages ago I left off at the chimney build, here are some more pics as a refresher/update. The steel is getting completed for the enclosure. I am standing on the steel wall to both reach the chimney and test the loading of the wall. Wall passes the over weight test beautifully!
A couple of pics of my over engineering the supports for the chimney and arch butressing. I used angle iron and unistrut to build both a platform to hold the weight of the bricks and side support for the arch/vent area. Way over kill IMHO

I don't dislike winter, the mortar dosen't like it! Nice hot fire inside makes any place warm and cozy!

    Hi Laku & Al,
This winter is actually VERY mild for us, but it still gets to -4c to -9c at night. I don't want to chance the mortar freezing before it hardens. I do have a little bit to work on but was putting it off till I was satisfied with the performance of the oven. Maybe more properly said I was afraid I had overlooked something and couldn't undo it after all the veneer work was done. This procrastination did pay off with realizing I needed some side lighting on the left side of the oven. I still could find and pull an electrical wire from the front lights and hook up side lighting on the same switch. I am working on the rear storage area a little at a time. But I can't wait for the warmer weather to FINALLY complete this project!

Sorry, I keep forgetting about "the weather".

We hardly get any adverse weather where we are, I even complain if we get a mild frost in winter that is gone by 9am....

I lived in the UK for a while, so I know how it can be.

We had another pause in construction, Crab filled stuffed mushrooms and Pizza! With food and recipes this good, I'll never get this completed!
And fresh Bread today to top it all off!
Thanks to all for the recipes and help with cooking/baking.

    Hi Al,
It is the straight arch across the top of the storage area under the hearth.
It is the charcoal pavers that form this shape \\\\\\\///////
It actually stands on it own but I used a lintel under it anyway. (don't trust my mortar skills or the arch)
