  • My Build 42" oven GT

After a long morning of getting everything ready to go, I finally got the inner arch and part of the soldier course done today. I ran out of full brick, so I have to wait until Monday to get 22 more to finish the soldier course.
Things going well so far. The homemade mortar mix works well.

You are moving right along on a good looking build! Make sure you have an expansion joint (empty space) between the hearth bricks and the soldiers. a piece of corrugated cardboard is usually used and left in to be burned away upon firing the oven.
    Good Luck

      Thanks,
I am using some cardboard, it isnt corrogated but its like a heavy matt board.

As long as it is flammable and or you remove it before you start your curing fires. I love using stuff that is laying around, it puts a smile on my wifes' face as she sees it being gone from the property! lol Unfortunately, after this project I may have more stuff lying around after the build than before it! She ain't goin be happy!

I got the soldier course done and the first row of the half bricks. The wood wedges seem like a neccessity and helped a lot as well as the indespensible tool.

Too much rain, finally broke down and bought a canopy to cover my build.
Got the second half brick row done without getting wet.

Added the fourth chain this evening. I noticed (too late) that some of the joints line up with the previous chain, I should have been watching the interior side more. Hope it does not make too much difference other than looks, I will have to cut a few to avoid this on the remaining chains.

Hi gtofani! Your build sounds like it's going great, could you upload some photos for us to admire? The Snapfish link needs a registration for me to view your photos for some reason. It's easy, just go to your snapfish account and go to the photo you want to upload, then right click and select 'Copy Image Url', then come to the forum and click the little postcard shortcut in the message control panel, and paste in your link.

Looking forward to seeing your photos, from the cover photo on the snapfish album it is going to be very impressive when it's done!

I will try that, it looks as though Snapfish changed the format and I it only lets me copy a link, not the URL. Will keep trying.

I could not find the method you use. I copied the link right from the address bar.
See if you can open it now. I also posted photos on the dome/floor section of the photo uploads.

Ok, I think I have the photo thing down. I had to use my photobucket account to get the url for my photos. Could not find the url on snapfish.

Hmmm, it is still asking me to login.

The link from the address bar won't acutally work (it'll be some internal Snapfish system); you'll need to open your photo in Snapfish, then right click and select 'Copy Image Address' - then in the forum message screen click the postcard button and paste the link, and click OK. Give that a whirl

                            If you use the postcard button in the message screen you can paste the photo in directly, so we can see them without following the link, like so;

May I say your oven is looking great by the way, you're making a lot of progress. Having finished the build of my 36" oven in the house I am now selling, I'm definitely going to have a crack at the 42" in the next house!
