  • Need fast technical help please with crack

Hey guys, built my oven last fall and did a small curing fire in November. Goin to get on the finishing material this week and after standing idle for six months I just lit a large fire to test it. Got a few hairlines but one 1/8" crack has developed. Not worried cosmetically as it will be covered but need advice if it will cause any structural failure. Safety first. Will try to upload a few pics soon.

If the brick breaks it's bond on the other side it may slip a bit. I don't think you need to wory about it sliding out because of the taper. Does the crack shrink back to normal after the oven cools? I personally haven't seen that but have read about it on a few posts.

Les, the fire is still burning. I will know tomorrow if it shrinks back down.

          No problem. Keep firing it.

I thought I did? If it opens and closes I don't think you have a problem. If it grows an eighth of an inch every time you fire - that would be a problem.

It didn't seem to close much so I filled it with some heat stop the next day. Haven't fired it since as it has been raining.
