  • Help regarding dome covering

    ust a quick one.
Just completed the dome using firebricks and fire cement. To fill any remaining joints to the external face of the bricks I have applied a fireclay and sand mix to smooth over the dome.
This is prior to application of fire blanket and external render.

Was the fireclay and sand mix a good idea or will it cause problems?

    Thanks for your help

It won't hurt. A sand/fireclay mix is commonly used as the base for the hearth bricks. The worst thing that can happen is that it cracks as the oven expands and contracts and flakes off. Not a big concern because your blanket and stucco lath will provide the structure for the stucco.

Thanks for that, just what I thought.
