    The forms are off. I am thinking of a enclosure les, i v/p the vent for structure and insulation purpose. I am pretty much winging it, i have been making up ideas as i go on, every time i have a idea i change it anyway,lol...so will see where it goes from here.

    Dave,

    I laid my decorative brick about an inch from the flue pipe and worked the vermiculite / portland in between the two. You are obviously using a form so what is your plan on the finish? The route you are going, you could pretty much do anything. Great idea, opens up a LOT of potential.

    Yes it is OK, if fact it is a really good idea, because although you don't really need to retain the heat in the flue and the entry it will both support the structure and reduce the temperature differential between the inside and the outside which can be damaging.

    Hello ,, is it ok to vermiculite and portland mix the whole vent and clay flue in,meaning frame around it and and filling it in with v/p mix..
