I have to make a decision soon as i need to buy the insulation tomorrow. The cal-sil is rated at 1,200F density is 15 lb, dimensions are 12x36x2 , and its $10 a board, at that price i can double it and get a 4 inch insulation under the bricks. Is this overkill?. Or my other option is getting ceramic fiber, rated at 2,800F , density is 17 lb, dimensions are 24x36x2. The box comes with 3 boards and costs about $115. Please take a look at the specs, specifically the density. I would greatly appreciate the feedback. Thanks

Lol, ya that is my thinking also, my main concern is the 15 LB density VS the 17 LB Density of the Ceramic board.Matthew 19:26. With God all things are possible.

Here are some pictures from the warehouse that supplies industrial insulation. Pacific Insulation - Industrial Products - Pipe Insulation, Air Handling/HVAC, Industrial Insulation, Commercial Insulation, Insulation Fabrication. . Heavier than i thought they would be. Its pretty solid, Asbestos free and Made in USA.

Re: Calcium silicate or ceramic fiber board
I used the same product (although mine were largely smoother than the one you showed. I went with 4", and have no complaint. The underside of my slab stays at ambient temperature even when the oven is going full bore. It is fairly porous--I found it impossible to put the standard fireclay-sand-water leveling mix between the insulation and my floor bricks because the CalSil instantly sucked any moisture out of the mix.
