    Lots of good progress!

So am I correct in thinking that the outside arch is going to be lower than the current opening? As it stands, you're going to get a lot of smoke coming out the front of your oven. But I am guessing your plan is another row of bricks that will act as a constrictor on the throat of the entry?

Yes the outside arch will be lower. I was just going to post a question though about how low it should be. Inner arch is just less than 14 and I was planning to make the outer 17. Which is in between the inner arch and current state @ 20-21. Will 17 be sufficient smoke blockage or should I just do another semi-circle with a 14" height?

I made mine the same amount taller than my inner arch as it was wider on each side. Which I think in my case was an inch. Purely for aesthetic reasons - but it seems to work well and not really smoke out the front unless it's windy or I really have it smoking badly.

14" hemi is perfect. It will enable your vent to operate beautifully (brilliant design, BTW) while keeping swirling winds out. It will also look great and you won't miss (need) an arch higher than 14".

I think you want the outer arch a bit bigger than the inner arch, just to get the door in...

My math was a 16" wide hemisphere which would be 15 inch tall

Thanks for the input guys! I'll stick with the 14" hemi. On another note I've been firing daily usually around 200-350 for about 3-4 hours. Today I've got up in the 400's Haven't noticed any cracks cause its all black on the inside but on the outside I have several hairline cracks. Does it really matter? What do I need to do to correct/fix if anything? And no I don't want to demo and re-do

Thanks for the compliment John. Coming from you it means a lot! The tunnel arch I kinda pulled from Stonecutter's structure of a gothic arch. It worked out ok I think.

Not only is this innovative and promises to provide a very effective flue gallery, the catenary arch shape is the most stable of all.

I covered mine with insulation before they appeared. Deny ability is the ticket...............I like the gothic arch.

                          KB,

I like the term "Plausible Deniability" . And I also like the gothic arch. With a lowered hemi, it will draw great!

                          Doc,

About the flu brick "jetting" over the back of your internal arch: Are you going to take the flu a couple of courses higher, or are you going to fill in underneath with v or pcrete?

There is a small gap that I'll fill with a gasket rope and some high temp sealant. Since it won't be seen though... the aesthetics of the way it looks now aren't a big deal to me.

Well I was out shopping and found an entire box of ciabatta dough for $3 so it was a must buy.
And since I fired the oven up to the 600's on Friday I thought that on Saturday I would insulate
and really let it burn to clear up the dome and cook some ciabatta.

After about 4 hours of letting the fire burn down it was still up at about 500 degrees so I thought
I would make use of the heat and some dough I accidentally left out. As you can also see,
the dome cleared up pretty nicely.
