  • New 42" build in NY

Finally! after 2 years of reading on the Forum I have started my new 42" oven build. I built the base for oven 7 x 6.5 ft. and added 2 prep areas 3ft by 21 inches. I made it so there is a walk in are to get to the oven. I just finished adding concrete to the cinderblock with rebar and starting the framing for hearth slab. I added a large angle iron in the middle for support that the hearth slab gets poured right onto. Please give any input or suggestions!

    Thank you,
    Chris

Looks like you are thinking this through nicely. You aren't messing around with strength. Very robust!

One thing that I wish I had done when building my oven was to split the base into "Two rooms" and put an additional wall across the center (where your angle iron is) and add another doorway either on the side or in the back. This would give support as well as make the storage underneath more useable. Right now, my storage area, only the front get used effectively....to get to the back, you have to get on your knees and crawl back there.

thank you...I think I'm going to make a unit underneath for the wood that can slide in and out like a pull out cabinet. Like you said, try to get more use for the space

I am learning from the suggestions and thinking about using a rolling pull out for my wood storage...just not sure how to pull it off. I am like everyone else, designing with the wood access in the front, rather than on the side.

I'm trying to figure out how to build a sturdy pull out sled for the wood...but so far no luck on anything that would be sturdy enough

Just a suggestion.....check out Gulf's build. He built what I thought was a very clever and interesting pullout drawer. Not sure if it's what you have in mind, but I thought it may help. Good luck w/it!

Lot's of good information helping us all along. Crazy how much time and effort goes into these builds and I can imagine how worth it, it is.

I can't wait to be done and enjoying it.
