Re: 7 years in the waiting i get to start my 42" pompeii

hi guys a bit of progress to date nearly at that keystone stage ended up with a taper cut at course8 the triangle gaps which to be honest i shouldnt be bothered about as im just basically filling with firebrick anyway, where getting to big for my liking only 10 mins cutting with the sthil saw so well worth it,kept some form of triangle joint though to keep in form

i still havent needed supports yet at course 9 and the bricks are nearly vertical i knocked half the ring down on course 9 by going back to the last brick layed and tapping with the trowel when i wasnt happy with it, bad move with grog and fondue once the brick is layed never try to tap it anywere all 6 bricks ended up on the oven floor got them back up though with a lesson learnt Click image for larger version

The grog And fondue mixture has really helped setting the bricks it's seconds and it has ad eared very strong sticking stuff also cutting with the sthill saw free hand next to the oven makes life a lot easier here is my cutting station Click image for larger version

Slow day but up and over the arch so a little easier from now on had to use gulfs method with the laser level to keep things level the cuts to arch were adamant they were going to drop but the laser kept them in checkClick image for larger version

that arch took some head work it took half a days marking and cutting and checking and checking and checking but i got it in the end. started laying this morning after pre cutting every brick even last key block all ive used so far is my sthil saw ts 450 so hand cutt realy no tables jigs or benches just me n me saw!.And i know i said the grog and fondue was a pain but its been a great product to use, sets in seconds when all bricks are dripping wet so was able to take arch former out after about 5 hours when i was done to clean up the pointing and bricks glad i did it was a little messy looks ok no though Click image for larger version

I like this one because it shows the beginning of the groin vault.

i few pics from yesterday didnt get chance today theseoven builds make the day fly slow progress mainly due to the mortar i used grog is hard to work with as soon as it hits the brick it dries out ive takken taking the brick straight from a bucket of water on to the bed time taking stuff also having trouble with the tapered arch i thought the would all be the same cut but be at the top my it is short which means every cut gets bigger to top of arch ? i got another course plus 6 lone rangers on next course for tomorroClick image for larger version
