Does one add Sand to HEAT STOP 50 (Dry in 50lb bag)

Directions on bag says to just add water, but I keep reading about adding sand to the 3.1.1.1 home made mixture.....not sure if I should be adding sand (like small rocks to cement), or leave the premix as is and just add water.
