  • Sanity check on my hearth

My plan is to have my barbecue the same height as the hearth floor. I am now wandering if my approach has compromised the strength. The plans have a little more than an inch of concrete below the steel and above the block where I have the steel setting on the block - hopefully the picture helps this make sense. Do you think the sheer strength of the steel alone is adequate to support the weight?

    Thanks,

    Les...

I'm good I had a PE run the numbers and the design will work. If I had it to do over though, I would have bent the steel 90 degrees into the block and then tie it to a vertical bar. Come to find out the sheer wasn't the issue - it was the pull out.

Sometimes thinking outside the box is a lonely place.
