  • Clay flue

If I decide to use a clay flue instead of stainless steel, can I just run the clay flue up through the roof of my oven house and put a cap or top on top of it,?

or do I need to build an enclosure (Chimney) around the flue?

I am no expert on chimneys but I can say that the entry to my SS chimney gets up to 600 degreed+ so I would think that the clay flue would get very hot. Go with an enclosed chimney. Adds to support as well.

Code is 1" airspace with 4" masonry wrap around terracotta flues.

So is masonry wrap the same thing as the ceramic blanket insulation or something different?

And I assume you wrap the flue with the insulation wrap then 1" of airspace?
