Thanks,
Bock

Problem being there are so many variations on the forum the info is overkill at times.
Finally made the move to construct a 36" dome oven. Selecting the location and getting the foundations laid has been a challenge and I only expect it to get steeper over the coming weeks. We decided to make use of some space at the back of our house, over looking pineapple fields and mountains as the sun goes down. The

Stay motivated, i got really down at some points thinking is this thing ever going to get finished! but it will and when it does you will be glad!

Trust me you are not the only one!
I doubt that anyone has had it neat all the way. Keep up the hard work and enjoy it.
Remain on your track no matter what your wife, family and friends tell you about the "mess with the oven".Last edited by Alomran; 04-08-2020, 08:07 AM.

I've attached my measurements hopefully you can see them now. It looks like I will have to extend my landing a bit.
Thanks for your help1 Photo

i cannot remember exactly from memory but i seem to remember using roughly a full brick at the peak (the top brick) then gradually getting smaller towards the bottom of the arch. This was for the structural arch, then my vent entrance where the chimney forms was another brick and a half deep as far as i remember with another half brick as a decorative arch. So from this id guess at around 450mm depth with another optional 100mm on top for a decorative arch. I can double check the measure tomorrow by measuring the oven if that would help
I've attached the measurements that I'm coming up with from my sketch so it would be good to see if these marry with your measurements.

Have a question for you as I'm getting ready to start building my own 42 inch here in Wicklow, Ireland.
What depth is you vent landing? The forno bravo manual recommends 8 inchs but this seems quiet short to me.
What were your measurements?

I’ve just spent the last hour trawling through your thread & looking longingly at the pictures!
I am not too far away from you, up in Alnwick. I’m planning on building an oven with reclaimed storage heater bricks as when roughly totting up the cost of the firebricks etc it’s hard to justify having spent the last 3 years putting an extension on & refurbing a house.
I’ve just finished the patio area over Xmas and hope to start the oven in the spring/summer, so if it’s ok with you I may be ‘picking your brains’ a bit later in the year. Saying that my son’s now 7 & we bought the house in 2016 with the promise of a treehouse so that might take precedence!
As you have said the wealth of experience, skills & the willingness to share it on this forum is amazing!
Regards,
David
Im glad you have been entertained and found it interesting, thats my aim to share my build and document it so others can see and gain a little understanding too.
Yeah sure, if there is anything I can help you with that your unsure about id be happy to help and give advice as im sure others on here will too. If seeing the oven in person makes things easier then im more than happy to show you around mine just give me a shout
Good luck!
