I know what you mean..my wife liked the white dome too. Then when she wasn't home I went out and started the swirls When she came back I said..wow that looks good. Honestly though her reaction coulda went either way. This time it went mine, It does look good though. That's cool you have access to a laser, I'm going to try my hand at a plasma cutter at my uncle's shop. Never really worked too much with metal, sO we'll see how it turns out

Thanks David. The acrylic stucco has a dye. I tried to match the cream color in the brick. The color is French vanilla (my favorite flavor in my coffee). We were going to sponge the surface with grays and reds to match the brick. The wife liked it the way it was.... That's what it's going to be. I posted a pic of my proposed door a while back. It requires the use of the laser, so I have to wait for the shop to have bandwidth to get it built. Same thing applies to my vent cover.

This is what the thing evolved into. I bought 5 more gallons of acrylic stucco today to give it a better shape and help it withstand the weather. I still need to build the vent cover (stainless steel) add the porcelain edging, and do an acid wash. My door is in process (the shop just got slammed). Outside of that, it's pretty much done.

Sorry to bore everyone watching the grass grow - I just want to document the process for the newbies.

Since there is nothing to tie the bricks to, I decided to add some steel for the second story (probably not needed). I had to fill the cavity anyways - no harm, no foul. I did put about 6 inches of high heat mortar on top of the fire brick - after that, it was type S. I am excited though, the end is in sight! And knowing that Norway has lost it's summer - I need to get my ass in gear.

Agreed - I just wanted to see what would happen to the product. I will probably add another 70 brick, at 2 lbs ea. that's only 140 lbs. I'm not sure I follow your calculation, as there is a variable If my tire's footprint is 8x7 and my tire PSI is 1 (a flat tire), that's only 56 pounds. That's less weight than the intake manifold alone.

I was getting a little concerned about the weight that my chimney is going to put on the insulation board. I did a little test. This is the front left side of my 3/4 ton GMC - GVW is 7200 pounds. I would think I'm good. It did smash the leading edge but I don't have any plans on driving onto my oven.

Gross approximation unless you think the load is evenly distrubuted which it is not.... makes it 1800 pounds.

You can get a more exact number without too much effort by measuring the foot print of the tire = this is area in square inches. Then measure your tire pressure which is in , if you use the right tool, pounds per sq inch.

Multiply tire pressure by tire foot print and viola weight!

Elizabeth - I will take the brick to the top of the flue tile. It was drawing pretty good without the second section, so I think it will be good enough. In regard to the cone , if I have time, I am going to add more stucco.

Your brick work looks really good, by the way. And I don't think the oven looks like a cone.
