Re: Les' Build
Wooohoo, that's fantastic!
Oh, and the dome also looks very nice...Do I have to back off, too?
Seriously, that dome is a thing of true beauty. Hall of fame? Definately!!
It'll be really interesting to see how it cures. I'd suggest waiting for about two weeks before you start though. Better safe than sorry you know... and it has the added advantage that I'll be back from my holls by then...

Re: Les' Build
Les,
This one should be entered in the Forno Bravo hall of fame. I'm guessing very little curing required due to the lack of mortar and moisture??

That is so cool -- the oven and the sky look great together. Time to fire up that beautiful open.
Congratulations Les.

Re: Les' Build
Houston - the Bung has landed!
It was a good day in LesLand... Took a few hours but I was able to drop it in pretty close. I did use the last of my heat stop on the top to lock it in.
OK - the first pic is the obvious plug, and the second is - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
The third is for Frances only - she wanted to see my legsMy wife and I had fun with this - she suggested the crossy leg thing - I don't go that way - everybody else - back off

Re: Les' Build
Come on bud...plug that puppy. Lets get cooking
Pile of rubble- NOT GONNA HAPPEN.......This oven is so tight, it will colapse in one piece
Seriously, are you leaving the insulation off during the cure? We are all pretty curious as to how much expansion/contraction will or will not occur in a near mortarless build. I can't see where you will have any issues.....just a curiousity thing.

Re: Les' Build
Thanks everyone!
Jim, the mortar is really thin and we are in the mid 90's. I'm really not concerned about the cracking - in fact, its part of the plan. When I get it up to full throttle, I am hoping that the bricks move around to their happy place (as long as that place isn't a pile). I'll probably add one or two more coats of mortar taking more care in the application. This stuff was just slapped on after I finished grouting the joints - kinda like licking the bowl.

Re: Les' Build
Shall we take a vote? I think I'd rather see Les' legs actually.
Years from now archeologists will dig up this dome and marvel at the increadible workmanship of people in our aera, specially considering to prinmitive tools available... it'll go down as a golden age of brick building...
...well, as long as they don't dig up too many other ovens, that is...
