  • Oven opening question

    Hi all,

I am at the point where I have put down my oven floor and am thinking about the construction of the dome courses. One question has me a little stumped - the exact placement of the oven opening. Should the back of the arch for the oven door run flush with the adjacent solider brick on each side or should it be set back a little? Is there a position which is the optimum placement for the subsequent hanging of the dome courses onto the entry arch? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers

I believe it should be flush....prevent turbulent air flows and avoid a place for ashes to gather. You want to be able to rake out coals and sweep the hearth so if you set it back I think you'd create a problem.

    On with the new year....

      Thanks SpringJim,

I played around with a dry layout of the soldier course today and what you said made perfect sense. No matter how much you read new questions always come up when you actually have to do it.

      Cheers
