If you want to read more about user to oven hight ratio, maybe you could check out this thread:
    http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f7/h...ence-3363.html

My oven's actually higher than average and I'm quite small and it works out fine, so I'm sure you'll be good.

    Hi Ellie,
I would get a border foundation dug a little deeper so as to accommodate a little more reinforcing steel. The whole thing will weigh almost a ton and needs to be on good solid earth and appropriate foundations. I feel that it is always better to slightly over engineer the footings than have them move and break down in time.
Also to remove the timber that is separating the slab into 3 separate areas (or simply slide the timbers back. The reinforcing rods can then run and be tied straight through to each other and topped with steel mesh.
You location is great as it allows you to extend your existing roof or maybe a timber pergola vine covered to generate the cooling atmosphere on your hot sultry times when you want to use your oven.
Keep up the pics and go for it kid!!!

    Cheers.

    Neill

That sounds great, Nikki. Thanks so much for putting my mind at ease. The folks on this forum are really nice and kind and helpful. I saw your wfo and it is beautiful.

I am 5'6 and my daughter who will use it is 5' even. Guess she did not get my genes!!

We are putting the hearth at 40-42 inches. Not counting the slab.

    Thanks again,
    Ellie

My foundation was done the same way. I'm only 5'4", did a standard stand design four courses high, made my hearth slab a bit thicker than required, and the height of the oven is great. It could even be a bit higher and be fine for me, in fact. I think you'll be just fine!

Thanks, Dino. The left side will be for a charcoal/wood grill and the right, simply a counter to hold stuff, plus it would look funny not having two sides, lol.

I do dutch oven cooking so the grill will slide out and I can put the oven right on the coals on the fire brick. I am trying to figure out now how far from the coals the grill should be. Anyone know?

This is going to be fun, fun, fun.

Looks really nice Ellie, I see the wings on the side of the oven pad. I like the ovens set with an open view beyond it. Us city dwellers (like me) have them a little more cramped but still functional. You'll be really excited when you see the block walls going up on the pad it starts to take shape.
    Good Luck, Dino

I guess once the pad is put in I will start a thread and title it Ellie's Oven like you guys do and post pictures along the way for those who are interested. The mason is going to follow the plans from this site.

Here it is so you can see where it is in relation to the patio.
