    My IR thermometer reads to 2470 degrees F. The highest temps I've ever recorded in my dome were just under 1200 degrees. 840 C is equal to 1544 F.

    I doubt you'd get that hot in the vent but I don't know for sure.

    You sure about that? The gasses coming out of my oven are pretty damn hot. I have never measured it, but it has to be close to the dome temp which exceeds my laser's ability (950 F plus). Why wouldn't it be, that's where it's coming from. It's most likely going to work but I always go to the edge, then step back a few...

    Edit... I read the numbers too fast, Ed mentioned 840 but I ran with the 500 - huge difference between the two.

    The back of this stone will be a part of the throat of the flue will it get to hot I understand 840'c it starts to break down
