  • Advice regarding install of the stove pipe?

I have come to the chimney install stage but there seems to be conflicting information about how to do this.

In order to secure it I was planning on using refractory cement but others have advised to use the perlite and concrete mix 10:1 because they ran into cracking the cement when the chimney expanded. I am not planning on building a stainless adapter for the chimney.

Thanks in advance for all/any advice!

PS. I covered the whole dome with refractory concrete to increase the thermal mass. (still need to do the ceramic blankets and Perlite...)

It seems like you are thinking to just stick the pipe in. I would try to build some sortsome sort of reducing "funnel " above the entryway to help gather the smoke.

        Thanks Anton.

I am now thinking about doing a brick chimney at least for the funnel.

What did you end up doing on yours?

I'm not really an authority on chimneys, pictures below is how I completed mine. clay flue liner goes on top.
in your case you probably can do metal pipe on top of the funnel so to avoid building brick enclosure all the way up (liner is not really that sighty )

Most folks that use stove type pipe use one of the adapter plates that are made for the size and brand of the pipe. You would build a brick transition on top of your vent arch for the plate to sit on. You can then put a decorative edge around the top, or if you aren't going for the igloo look build a dog house type enclosure.

Wow that looks great! Things are a little complicated because I think I have to cover the whole thing with quick wall and then seal it. Its uncovered and beside the ocean!

I am now thinking about doing a clay vent.
