  • keeping my oven dry

I'm going to install my oven within some outside stone steps of my old stone house, but I'm concerned about the oven being damp.

I don't really want to encapsulate the whole thing in a sort of waterproof bubble as I'm worried about condensation, though I may be wrong - any ideas on this?

Are you worried about wetness during the build, or after it's assembled?

I don't think you have to concern yourself with condensation issues during the build--you'll be soaking bricks and spraying it down to get a nice, slow cure, anyway.

After the dome is built, you'll be insulating and coming up with some weatherproofing solution (be that enclosure or igloo of some variety) and driving out the moisture slowly through the curing process. Moisture is inevitable during the build; just take care to dry the oven out properly and you'll be just fine.

Yes, I'm worried about dampness after the construction as the oven is going to be built inside a large block of basically (and ironically!) dry stone walling (see attachments above)... I've never found these to be dry within!

The attachments didn't work for me for some reason, so I can't see the details you tried to post. Try again, perhaps? Sounds like an intriguing location, and I'd love to see what you mean!
