    Re: Karangi Dude's 48inch Oven

Last course, just the plug to go!

Used the same method I used for the 12th course for the 13th and last course this time I screwed a small 6mm disk to set the angle back, I will then trace the hole left onto the little disk and use this as a template to make the keystone
Now I just need to make a keystone and it is all closed up YEH!

Doug, it looks great, fantastic effort, well done. Looks like the ply disc worked a treat right to the end.

Well done Doug, It looks great. Is there a big "Topping Out" ceremony planed for when the keystone is placed and your brickwork is complete?

              Re: Karangi Dude's 48inch Oven

              Thanks Paul,

Yeah I will probably be doing a happy dance that's for sure. I will get the keystone made and fitted this afternoon and then my Wife and I will more than likely go to our local pub at Coramba. That's a little town about four Kms from our property it only has a pub, servo and general store and a few hundred houses. It has a good country feel about the place. I might even get to see a bit of the cricket and of course have a couple of well deserved drinks.
I will be posting some more pics of the inside of the dome when I finish cleaning up.

Paul my brick work will not be finished until the enclosure is complete then my Wife will be doing a happy dance as she gets her carport back as I have been using it whilst building the oven.

I will not be fireing the oven untill it is fully completed.
We are all hanging out for that as I made a statement a few weeks ago that I would not be making any more pizza until the oven is complete, we have been making pizza in our BBQ for quite a while.

              Cheers Doug

                Re: Karangi Dude's 48inch Oven

Making and fitting the keystone is the final part of builing the dome.

I traced the hole onto the litte disk before I took out the support stand this will give me a starting point.

Great work Doug you'll be the envy of all your mates with that oven.
It's amazing how time flies when you get stuck into a project.
Make sure you take some nice shots on how you attach the blanket to the dome .

Thanks for the tip about the exercise ball Goose.

                      Dear Doug
This would be called in the building Game "the lock up stage"... looks like it supposed to... only the last fiting out to complete.
Very neat and well thought through construction ...enjoyed watching your progress...

                      Regards Dave

Wow, Doug. Very, very nice work! Yours may be the most symmetrical last few courses ever. Definitely the work of a craftsman and something you can be proud of. Your standard sets the bar higher for the rest of us.

                          Hey John,

Thanks for your kind words, but I think you are far to generous.
John I just like to do things right, but my Wife always says everthing I do has to be bloody perfect, I think she exaggerates a little. I am into symmetry I think that's what probably annoys my Wife the most.

                          Regards Doug

Hope you can get the thing completed soon!

                              Hey Chris,
Thanks I think I could do with a trip to the States.
Chris I am planning on curing the oven when it is completely finished eg. insulation, flue and enclosure etc. I am using 2 layers of thermal blanket then I will be bricking up the enclosure and filling with loose vermiculite. I plan on curing the oven with heat beads that I will fire up outside of the oven and then spread them all over the floor out to about 4" from the walls. I will continue to add heat beads for about 8 to 10 hours. My theory is to add heat to the oven as evenly as possible that's is why I want the insulation on so that the heat is spread evenly over the whole of the dome. I am not having a FLAME at ALL just lots of radiant heat, I plan on also keeping the heat in the oven for days by placing the insulated door that I am fabricating out of Insulation board sandwiched in steel. I will be monitoring the temps with Six thermocouples that I have in the oven that will be connected to a Multi Channel Indicator.
Anyway that's my plan, sorry for the rant and thanks for your kind words.

                              Regards Doug

Finaly got to clean up the floor.
I forgot how it looked, I finished the last bit of pointing on the inside of the enclosure. So now I am ready for the insulation and brick up the enclosure.
My 15 year old Daughter decided she would like to see if she could fit in my oven she is 5'4" so lucky I built a big oven.
